During our recent New Year escape to Schwarzenburg, we had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Sonne, a charming property that perfectly embodies the tranquil essence of the Voralpen region. Check-in was seamless, allowing us to quickly settle into our bright and spacious room, complete with a private balcony—perfect for enjoying the serene sounds of the nearby creek. One of the highlights of our stay was the delightful breakfast spread featuring fresh typical breads, local cheese, and fruit, which laid the ideal foundation for our explorations nearby. The hotel’s ideal location, within 30 minutes of Bern, opened up many opportunities for day trips, including a visit to the historic Schwarzenburg Castle, a mere 550 meters away, which is a wonderful dive into the rich local history. While the dining prices may be steep—as is common throughout Switzerland—the cultivated ambience of the restaurant, decorated in beautiful Alpine style, offered a cozy retreat after our adventures. That said, we did experience some inconsistencies with staff friendliness, which detracted slightly from our experience. My family and I enjoyed a peaceful New Year at this lovely hotel, appreciating both its natural surroundings and historical significance in the heart of Switzerland.
